Couples Therapy
Couples therapy at The Modern Insight is designed for partners in Colorado seeking greater attunement, a deeper capacity to navigate conflict as well as rebuild connection within the relationship.
The work is grounded in a systemic perspective: understanding the relationship as a dynamic system shaped by historical patterns of interaction. Rooted in a person-centered and a relational approach, the therapeutic relationship itself becomes a container where new patterns of interaction and communication take shape.
Drawing from Family Systems Theory, including Bowenian and Structural Family Systems perspectives alongside Gottman-informed tools for improving communication and reducing destructive conflict cycles.
Underscoring these aspects are the relational foundations of Buddhist Psychology and Transpersonal Psychology, which view the relationship as a living system which fosters partners’ attunement, insight and intentional interaction.
Couples are welcome to bring their own spiritual traditions into the therapy space should these practices provide meaning and depth to the partnership.
The process begins with a brief consultation to consider fit and determine whether this approach aligns with what you and your partner are seeking.
Sessions begin with a 75-minute intake and continue in 50 minute sessions, with extended 90 or 120 minute options available when needed.
Couples therapy is available virtually across Colorado. In-home sessions are offered in Greenwood Village, Denver, and Colorado Springs.
In-home psychotherapy may be available for standard couples clients when clinically appropriate and is offered on a limited basis. Availability varies by service type and location and is determined collaboratively as part of treatment planning.

Common Questions About Couples Therapy
Do both partners need to attend?
Yes, couples therapy is designed for both partners to participate. Individual concerns may come into the work, but the relationship itself is the primary client.
Does attending couples therapy mean our relationship is doomed?
No. Couples therapy does not mean your relationship is failing. It means you are paying attention.
Many couples wait until the relationship is in crisis before seeking support, but therapy can also be a form of maintenance. Just as a car needs regular care before something breaks down, healthy relationships also need attention, repair and recalibration over time.
Some couples come in because they want to strengthen the relationship. Others come because they are in crisis or need discernment around whether to continue the relationship, separate or divorce. In either case, the goal is not to force a predetermined outcome. The goal is to create enough clarity, steadiness and honest communication that both partners can better understand what the relationship needs next.
Couples Therapy at The Modern Insight begins with a conversation about how the relationship is currently functioning and what is needed next.
You and your partner are welcome to request a brief consultation to allow space to explore alignment in goals and consider whether the approach offered resonates with what you are seeking.
